What's the role?
The Engineer III is responsible for development and research activities to derive product solutions from concept to serial production within the product development and supply team. This role requires creativity in design, proven understanding in relevant materials, and manufacturing technologies in conjunction with design to cost, based on the competency of Hilti suppliers. This role will interact within an interdisciplinary team (product management, supply manager, quality) to ensure development quality. The Design & Product

What does the role involve?
Design, simulate, and test potential new products and product improvements with customers and other stakeholders. Visit customer job sites to prototype and test designs, troubleshoot, and collect data.
Validate proposed product requirements.
Systematically develop new concepts based on customer needs and cost targets
Work closely with suppliers to develop serial drawings taking into consideration manufacturing requirements
Validate concepts in terms of function, cost, manufacturing technology, and quality in cooperation with Testing, Marketing, Quality, and Supply
Responsible for detailed design specification/engineering, manufacturing of components and assembly in conformity to standards and processes; design to the state of the art
Test the developed solutions, including defining test setup and test execution
Collaborate and coordinate with internal and external partners
Document developed product, including development and design report
Additional duties as assigned

What you need is:
Bachelor’s in mechanical engineering or design engineering, required
Minimum 2 years of product development experience, required
Strong background in developing and prototyping new products with electrical, mechanical, and software components
Demonstrated experience with the full product development cycle, through prototyping and manufacturing
Good knowledge of drawing features (dimensions, tolerances, design know‐how) so that full specification can be made that is understood by internal and external stakeholders
Working knowledge of electronics manufacturing technologies, plastics, and assembly techniques and processes
Familiarity with development tools such as Design of Experiments (DoE), Morphological Box and Failure Mode Effects and Analysis (FMEA)
Working knowledge of a CAD software
Basic understanding of design to cost methodology
Ability to work in interdisciplinary and intercultural project teams
High commitment, self‐responsibility and customer orientation
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Majority of work is performed in an office or test lab environment. The test lab environment requires working with heavy machinery and hazardous materials. Occasional visits to job sites or suppliers’ manufacturing facilities may be required. Depending on the environment, following safety equipment may be needed.
Up to 20% travel, domestic and international, required.
Adverse Working Conditions:
Job requires walking on construction sites and uneven surfaces, ladders & stairs during all seasons of the year
Depending on geography employees may be exposed to adverse heat or cold exposure
Construction jobsites may also expose employee to excessively loud noises
Test lab environment working with heavy machinery and exposure to hazardous materials
Safety Equipment Required:
Hardhat, safety vest, safety glasses, gloves, steel toe boots and long pants required for working jobsites
Must observe and abide by all safety regulations as required by Hilti, Occupational Health & Safety Administration (OSHA), and General Contractors
Ear protection is strongly encouraged and may be required on some jobsites
Must be able to walk on construction projects and able to lift and carry as much as 65 pounds
