As a former intern who joined Hilti full-time after graduation, I’m sharing my perspective on the internship program, my transition into a full-time position, and my career progression so far.
Tell us about your internship experience.
It is a running joke with friends and family that I work for a power tool company but not just any power tool company, the “Lamborghini of the power tool world.” When I started my internship at Hilti the summer before my senior year of college, I barely knew what a Phillips screwdriver was, let alone a power tool! Now I have been with the organization for almost four years in three different full-time roles.
From the first day of my internship I felt the welcoming and team-oriented culture. The entire team in the learning & development department made sure I was set up for success from day one by giving me two different projects to focus on, multiple teams to network with, and the opportunity to gain real-world working experience in a fun and engaging environment. Throughout my internship, I had the chance to shadow customer service reps and spend a day in the Hilti store in Tulsa to learn more about our day-to-day operations. My intern manager was an excellent mentor and guided me through my projects and final presentation. It was an incredible internship experience I will forever be grateful for!
How have you developed within your career so far?
I've had the opportunity to take on three different full-time roles in my career at Hilti so far. I have been challenged and developed differently in each one, but the constant theme throughout is to be curious and courageous each day. I learned through participating in the Account Manager Development Program that it is okay to make a mistake or fail, as long as you learn from it and were courageous enough to try! That message carried over into my time as an Account Manager. It was important to stay curious, ask open-ended questions, and truly listen to understand rather than just to respond. I was fortunate enough to participate in the Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) where I was challenged by the different Executive Management Team members to take a step back and look at my territory in a new way in order to pursue more strategic objectives. ELP helped me develop both personally and professionally.
Have you relocated in your time with Hilti?
Yes — three times total! I first moved to Tulsa, OK for my full-time position as an Inside Sales Specialist after my college graduation. About 15 months later, I relocated north to Minneapolis, MN to be an Interior Finish Account Manager. Most recently, I relocated to Plano, TX for my current role as Process Manager for our central market organization. It has been an absolute blast to relocate around the central U.S. and I am grateful for the network of Hilti people that I gained through these relocations!
What is your favorite part of your role?
My favorite part about my current role is the opportunity to work with and support the entire central market organization. As the Process Manager, I have had the ability to network with more people in the MO than ever before and offer advice, suggestions, and even solutions to issues that arise in the field. Sharing learnings from my previous position in the field has already been such a rewarding experience that I am excited to continue!

What’s a myth about your job that you’d like to bust? Or about working at Hilti?
That you must know how to use a power tool! Or really have a deep knowledge of the construction industry at all. It is such an incredible learning environment here at Hilti.
Any tips for someone who is considering a role at Hilti or advice for someone interested in a career like yours?
Take the leap and do not let fear of the unknown stop you! Network and gather experience from anyone and everyone you can. I knew very little about Hilti when I first started, but I did know they were known for having an incredible company culture and they develop talent from within. It was important to me to find a company that valued developing their people. Hilti does not just talk the talk, they walk the walk too and I will always be grateful for the Oklahoma State career fair for introducing me to this organization!
